Dr Williana Basuki, keynote for the dentistry stream, was born and raised in Indonesia. She completed her veterinary degree at the University of Queensland in 2010, followed by a stint as a small animal practitioner at Waterworks Road Veterinary Clinic.
She then undertook a rotating internship, followed by a surgical internship, at Queensland Veterinary Specialist and Pet Emergency in Brisbane. She completed a three-year residency in Oral Surgery and Dentistry, with a Masters degree, at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dr Basuki now works at Tufts Veterinary and Emergency Treatment and Specialties in Walpole, Massachusetts when she also provides continuing professional development for referring veterinarians.
She will be sharing her knowledge about all things dental. Getting the basics right is critical to successful dentistry: from selecting the appropriate dental instruments, oral examination and anatomy, regional nerve blocks and intraoral radiograph technique, Williana is experienced at helping practitioners “sharpen the axe” to achieve the best possible results.
She understands feline dental disease can be frustrating and will be discussing both feline tooth resorption. She will also share her tips for diagnosing and managing periodontal disease, avoiding and addressing complications of dental fractures, and non-invasive stabilisation of jaw fractures.
