Keynote speaker Professor Natalie Waran (New Zealand) will discuss research into positive emotions in animals, the ethics of training animals, addressing equine behaviour problems, how different values can lead to different animal welfare challenges and a review of international work on human behaviour change and animal welfare. She is supported by a team of local speakers including Trudie Sharp, George Wilson, Tanya Stephens, Magdoline Awad, Susan Hazel, Bronwyn Orr, and Andrea Harvey. Earn 6 additional VetEd points by attending the AVAWE workshop, “Changing human behaviour: changing animal lives” on Friday 18 May. This is an opportunity to explore, discuss and debate approaches to changing human behaviour to improve animal welfare. Strategies that will be discussed include engagement with the community, school children - the next generation of consumers, stock owners and handlers, share-holders, exporters and veterinarians making clinical decisions.
